Sign: Justice Needed: 29 Dogfighting Dogs Knew Only Chains & Cruelty

Deland, Florida – This summer, members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. team executed a search warrant at a residence located at 31938 3rd Avenue, Deland. On the morning of July 23, the authorities found 29 dogs and puppies chained and caged on the property. According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, most of the dogs had injuries and scarring consistent with dogfighting.

The man responsible for the illegal, cruel situation is identified as Jason Allen Biggers. Biggers was arrested and is facing a slew of charges, including 29 counts of Aggravated Animal Cruelty, 28 counts of Fighting or Baiting Animals, one count of possession of marijuana more than 20 grams, and one count of tampering with evidence. He has pleaded not guilty to all counts.

Dogfighting is inhumane and often tied to other illegal activities, including gambling and drug trafficking. These brutal events sometimes even involve children as spectators, teaching them to become desensitized to animal cruelty. The dogs forced into this so-called “bloodsport” endure unimaginable suffering, from lives devoid of comfort and love to the agony of violent fights that leave them gravely injured or dead. In these cruel operations, dogs that lose are often killed, while the so-called ‘winners’ are crudely patched up and forced back into the ring to maim and be maimed again.

A convicted dogfighter recounted one dog fight, and the description reveals the brutality of what these dogs face:

“Miss Rufus spent most of the rest of the fight on her back and Bandit broke her other front leg high up in the shoulder, as well as one of her back legs, in the knee joint. The only leg she didn’t break, she chewed all to hell. She had literally scalped Miss Rufus, tearing a big chunk of skin off the top of her head alongside one ear.”

WHY THIS PETITION MATTERS: 

We, the undersigned, demand that Jason Allen Biggers be held accountable for his involvement in the Deland dogfighting operation. It is our collective demand that this man face the maximum sentence for every charge stemming from these cruel activities and be permanently banned from owning or residing with animals. Laws must recognize the actual seriousness of animal abuse and ensure that those who commit these brutal acts are held fully accountable.

Research has consistently shown a strong link between animal cruelty and human violence. Individuals who commit such heinous acts against animals often pose a threat to society as a whole, as animal abuse is frequently a precursor to other violent crimes. Failing to hold this man accountable not only denies justice to the dogs who suffered unimaginable cruelty while in his ‘care’ but also endangers the community at large. We must send a clear message that such cruelty will not be tolerated.

Individuals are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law. Animal Victory relies upon the authorities and the court system to determine guilt or innocence.
