Bay County, FL – An innocent cat died this month because she was left caged on a hot balcony at the Fletcher Black apartments in the scorching summer heat. The person facing charges for this despicable act is identified as Amanda Vanessa Ortiz of Panama City.

The police incident report shows that Ortiz was charged with “Conservation-Animals-Torment, Deprive, Mutilate Kill” for the cruel act.

Imagine the cat’s suffering as she sat in her locked cage, exposed to the intense August heat. There was no shade or water available; nothing to provide her with relief from the blazing sun baking her alive on the apartment balcony. By the time help arrived, she was gone.

The fire department had to come to the apartment to remove the cage and the deceased cat from the otherwise inaccessible balcony. There was no way for anyone to help as the cat suffered an agonizing death.

An innocent cat suffered immensely before dying from heat stroke on an apartment balcony, and we want her owner, Amanda Vanessa Ortiz, to be held fully accountable for this criminal act in the court of law. Research has consistently shown a strong link between animal cruelty and human violence. Individuals who commit such heinous acts against animals often pose a threat to society as a whole, as animal abuse is frequently a precursor to other violent crimes. Failing to hold this woman accountable not only denies justice to the innocent cat who suffered an agonizing death but also endangers the community at large. We must send a clear message that such cruelty will not be tolerated.
