Santa Ana, California – Hahn Nguyen, 75, of Anaheim, has been arrested in connection with the death of a nine-month-old pit bull mix puppy named Blackey, who police say was deliberately run over with a Honda Odyssey on the morning of September 8.
The horrifying incident was captured on surveillance video. According to the Santa Ana Police Department, Nguyen removed Blackey from the minivan, put dog food near the driver’s door, and slowly drove forward as the puppy approached the food. The rear driver’s-side tire then ran over Blackey, and the vehicle remained stopped on top of him for approximately 15 seconds before leaving the scene.
For several weeks, police in Santa Ana investigated the horrific incident. Detectives ultimately used automated license-plate reader technology to trace the vehicle to an Anaheim address, where they located the Honda Odyssey inside Nguyen’s garage. When questioned, Nguyen admitted to “owning and abandoning” her puppy, Blackey.
On September 30, while still trying to find the woman responsible, the police posted the following description of the cruel incident on Facebook, writing,
“At approximately 9:15 a.m., an older, blue or green Honda Odyssey with a roof rack was parked in front of 926 W. Park Lane. The woman removed the puppy from the minivan, placed it under the vehicle, put dog food near the driver’s door, and slowly drove forward as the puppy approached the food. The puppy was then run over by the rear driver’s side tire, and the vehicle remained stopped on top of the puppy for approximately 15 seconds before leaving northbound on Lowell Street.”
Hahn Nguyen admits that she abandoned Blackey. Video shows the full extent of what she did. Blackey was taken out of Nguyen’s vehicle and then lured to stay there by food also put out by Nguyen. She proceeds to drive slowly over her own puppy, stopping on top of his body for 15 seconds, before driving away, leaving his mangled body behind.
Please add your name to the petition to hold Hahn Nguyen accountable for luring her puppy to his own death. The video footage (below) shows the true horror of what happened to Blackey.
Warning: Video is disturbing!
We demand that Hahn Nguyen be held fully accountable for puppy’s cruel and senseless death. This puppy was lured to his death by the person he trusted. The person who should have loved and cared for him. We urge the Orange County District Attorney to pursue animal cruelty under California Penal Code § 597(a) and animal abandonment under § 597s(a). Please evaluate whether the evidence supports filing the animal-cruelty count as a felony, and seek the applicable prohibition on owning or possessing animals if there is a conviction.
