Sign: Police Say Woman Strangled a Kitten and Snapped Its Neck in Front of Officers During Her Arrest

Beaumont, Texas – On the evening of September 10, police say a defenseless kitten sustained fatal injuries at the hands of a 45-year-old Beaumont woman. According to the Beaumont Police, an officer was dispatched to the 5300 block of Bigner Road for a welfare check on a woman identified as Heather Broussard.

The responding officer reported seeing Broussard gripping a young kitten by the neck. As the officer approached, the woman allegedly tightened her grip, snapping the kitten’s neck. According to the avadavit, the officer reported she was holding the kitten by its neck so tightly that the eyes were bulging and tongue was out.

Tragically, the grievously injured kitten survived, but had to be humanely euthanized because of the catastrophic injury.

This tiny kitten was completely helpless in that moment, with no way to escape what was happening. A young life in the hands of the very person who, according to the allegations, was causing fatal injuries.

Broussard resisted arrest and was ultimately handcuffed after being taken to the ground by the officer. She was arrested on multiple charges:

Third-degree felony — Cruelty to a Non-Livestock Animal
Misdemeanor — Evading Arrest or Detention
Misdemeanor — Resisting Arrest, Search or Transport

We demand that Broussard face the strongest charges supported by the evidence and, if convicted, receive the maximum sentence permitted by Texas law. At sentencing, ask that this woman be forbidden from owning or residing with animals in the future.
