San Diego, CA – SeaWorld San Diego has announced the death of a rescued sea lion named Freeway. The sad notice was posted to SeaWorld’s Facebook page on April 21:
It is with heavy hearts that we share “Freeway,” the rescued sea lion, passed away yesterday — surrounded with love from his devoted care and rescue teams. His adventurous spirit won the hearts of all San Diegans and he will be remembered for that and so much more.
According to SeaWorld, Freeway had contracted a “progressive disease” before he was rescued last year. Freeway received “extensive” care, but his health continued to deteriorate, forcing his caretakers to make the difficult decision to humanely euthanize him.
SeaWorld said:
We are grateful for the support of the community and all of Freeway’s fans who, like us, loved him so very much. We will miss him dearly
Rest in peace Freeway.

Not a big fan of keeping ocean species in captivity for the sake of giving humans something to see for commercial gain. In this case the animal was sick and they tried to help it and that’s okay as long as it would have been released after it recovered but I doubt they would have done that.
Rescued?? At seaworld?? This poor sealion needed to be rescued FROM seaworld!! Why do they continue to abuse these animals??
